Who should raise the bar?

All colleagues I deeply respect seem to share a common trait: they take great pride in their work. They are never content to settle for mediocrity. Adhering to standards, and even attempting to raise them comes from within, rather than being triggered or enforced by management, rules, regulations, standards (forces outside of them).

Once one begins to accept sloppy coding, learn to live with bugs, you effectively (and voluntarily) lower the bar. If some issue isn’t worth fixing, then why would you not accept some other? And another? Until you’re filled with disgust over your work. We deserve better.

Because this sense of pride, and the inherent need to derive job satisfaction from creating or doing something “nice”, continuous learning is a given. The world changes, our craft changes, and we change along. It’s an urge to move forward that is self-motivated. An opportunity to evolve.

What do you plan to do today, to grow and learn?
